After a last-minute victory over Algeria, Cameroon now holds the record as the African nation with the most appearances in the World Cup finals. They have made eight total appearances.

They made a miraculous late turnaround after they lost the first leg of the play-off in March, but this Cameroon side is among the weakest to qualify for a World Cup since the African nation made its first appearance 40 years ago. 

After Cameroon finished in third place at the African Cup of Nations finals that they hosted at the beginning of the year, former captain Rigobert Song replaced Toni Conceicao as the country’s head coach. Song’s appointment is due to the fact that the legendary Samuel Eto’o has been appointed as the head of the Cameroon Football Federation, and he will undoubtedly have a lot of influence in team selection and tactics.

Cameroon is in a tough group and hasn’t made it past the group stage at the World Cup since 1990, when they made history by becoming the first African country to make it to the quarterfinals. 

TACTICS

Cameroon places a high value on wide attackers Ngamaleu and Toko Ekambi, who supplement the abilities of No. 9 position holder Aboubakar. Zambo Anguissa is the most important player in the midfield, and Ngadeu is the most important player defensively. The physically powerful unit excels at set pieces and is a good point overall.
